Cobild is not your typical builder, which means that refurbishing their headquarters in Cremorne VIC was always destined for greatness.
Located amongst the eclectic charm of inner-city, Cobild lives, works and builds their core values of communication, connection, honesty and teamwork. The Cobild HQ is a textural exploration of light and transparency.
Working with Mim Design, the mandate was to create “a space that encourages openness and authenticity, it encourages productive collaboration and enables employees to thrive.”
Cobild transformed their two-floor office space using various translucent materials to create an open-plan layout that allows for easy circulation and clear sightlines. With a comfy living-room-style breakout area and a communal kitchen, the resulting space is meant to look more like a penthouse apartment than a typical office.
Collaboration with Lights and Tracks assisted with the lighting solution that contributes to the brightness and emotion of the refurbished space. The elevator banks use a mixture of Titanium downlights and Eclipse linear lighting to add warmth and dimension to the natural wood walls and terrazzo flooring. Visitors are welcomed at reception by the hand-stitched tobacco leather wall behind the reception desk is gently lit with Kinetics taking advantage of their multi-functional and flexible nature. Throughout the office space, the suspended LX virtually float above the work areas providing the perfect illumination and contemporary feel.
In 2020, Mim Design received a commendation for workplace design presented by the Design Institute of Australia and Artichoke Magazine for the Cobild refurbishment
